The Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) has named Baltermar Brito, a Brazilian-born coach and current Highlanders coach, as the interim manager for the country's senior men's team. Assisting him in this role will be Bongani Mafu and Genesis Mangombe.

ZIFA stated that the selection of this trio came after an extensive recruitment and consultation process, adhering to guidelines from regional, continental, and global football confederations. The appointment of these coaches aligns their term with that of the Normalisation Committee (NC) to allow the next board the opportunity to select its own coaching staff.

Brito, who holds a UEFA Pro coaching License, will lead the Warriors in an invitational match to commemorate Botswana's Independence Day next week. Following this, he will guide the squad in the African Nations Championships next month and the World Cup qualifiers in November, along with other assignments, until June 2024.
The Brazil-born Brito was part of Mourinho's staff at Porto and Chelsea. He told local reporters that Mourinho urged him on to apply for the Zimbabwe job.

His appointment extends to July 2024.
