CURE Children's Hospital in Bulawayo has introduced free plastic surgery for children with burns, cleft lip, and cleft palate.
Since July this year, more than 50 children have already benefited from these surgical procedures.
The hospital is collaborating with the Ministry of Health and Child Care and United Bulawayo Hospitals to provide these services. They have enlisted the expertise of a musculofascial surgeon from the Philippines to perform the surgeries.
The hospital aims to address a significant need for plastic surgery in the country, particularly for conditions like cleft lips and palates, burns, and other injuries.
The procedures are provided free of charge, making them accessible to all children in Zimbabwe who require such care.
CURE Children's Hospital also offers nutrition programs and support for children with cleft lip and palate before surgery, helping them achieve better health outcomes.
The hospital is committed to spreading awareness about its services and increasing access to care for children with these conditions, aiming to alleviate the stigma and challenges faced by affected children and their families.
They are also working to train medical staff to decentralize these services and ensure sustainability in the long term.
