Prophet jailed for murder

Mount Darwin's self-proclaimed prophet, Tanhanha Chamunorwa, has been sentenced to six years in prison for murder by Bindura regional magistrate Elisha Singano. However, Chamunorwa will serve five years as Singano conditionally suspended one year on the condition of good behavior.
According to prosecutors, on January 13, Chamunorwa was hired by Track Kachenge, now deceased, to cleanse his homestead. During the cleansing ceremony, Chamunorwa allegedly administered a concoction to Kachenge, rendering him unconscious for two days.
On the third day, Chamunorwa returned to the homestead, wielding an axe handle, and struck Kachenge on the head.
The commotion alerted the family, who witnessed Chamunorwa allegedly expressing intentions to kill someone.
The incident was reported to the police, leading to Chamunorwa's arrest. Edward Katsvairo prosecuted the case.
