A 50-year-old man, John Mukombi, appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs. Feresi Chakanyuka on charges of attempted murder after allegedly attacking his wife, Tsitsi Mahachi, with a hoe during a domestic dispute.

Mukombi, who is reportedly in a polygamous marriage, was remanded in custody until Monday, when his bail application is scheduled to be heard. Prosecutor Mr. Loveti Muringwa told the court that the incident occurred on December 24 in Eastview, Mabvuku, Harare.

According to the prosecution, Mukombi had arrived at his first wife's home from his second wife's residence at around 10:30 a.m. He was carrying a hoe and began weeding the yard. Mahachi later joined him in the activity.

A misunderstanding reportedly broke out between the couple while they were working in the yard. During the argument, Mukombi is alleged to have struck Mahachi on the nose with the hoe, inflicting a deep cut.

The injured Mahachi reported the matter to the police, leading to Mukombi's arrest.

Mukombi faces a charge of attempted murder. If found guilty, he could face a lengthy prison sentence. The case has raised concerns about domestic violence, with many calling for stricter measures to address such incidents.

The court is expected to consider the bail application on Monday. Meanwhile, Mahachi is receiving medical treatment for her injuries.
