Trenance man jailed for sexual offence involving minor

A 36‑year‑old man from Trenance, Bulawayo, has been jailed for three years after the Tredgold Regional Magistrates’ Court convicted him of having sexual intercourse with a minor.
The matter came to light after a 14‑year‑old girl was arrested in connection with a kidnapping incident at a Bulawayo market. Upon her arrest, authorities discovered that she had been living in an intimate relationship with the offender at his home.
The State proved that between January and February 2026, the man engaged in sexual intercourse with the minor on several occasions.
Although the relationship was described as consensual by both parties, the State argued that the complainant’s age rendered her legally incapable of giving consent. At 14, she is protected under the Criminal Law Code, which criminalises any sexual activity between an adult and a child.
Authorities emphasised that the protection of minors is a non‑negotiable priority and that any intimate relationship between an adult and a child constitutes a serious offence, regardless of perceived consent.
