The United States Embassy will host an American Universities and Colleges Fair for "A" level and other prospective undergraduate students in Bulawayo on Saturday, July 13.
The Fair will enable students and parents to hear firsthand information about further study in the United States, including information on scholarships, campus and college life at a wide variety of colleges and universities.
14 American universities and colleges will be represented at the Fair where they will be represented by former students now based in Zimbabwe and current students home on summer vacation. The institutions include: Lynn University; St Lawrence University; Morehouse College; Amherst College; De Paul University; Harvard University; Ouachita University; New York University-Abu Dhabi; Cornell University; University of Pennsylvania; Brown University; Yale University; College of St Scholastica and Oberlin College.
The event, which will be held at Eveline High School, is free and open to members of the public between 10 am and 2 pm. Fair attendees can also attend presentations on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), careers in the arts and law, applying for a student visa, and the college/university application process.
The United States is home to more than 4000 internationally accredited colleges and universities and is increasingly a destination of choice for Zimbabwean students - nearly 1200 Zimbabwean students are currently attending various American colleges and universities. A large percentage of those who pursue U.S. studies from Zimbabwe do so with full or substantial scholarships awarded for their academic, artistic or sporting talent.
The U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Section in Eastgate Mall in Harare, and the American Cornesr at the Bulawayo Public Library, Mutare Turner Memorial Library, and the Gweru Public Library all house EducationUSA Advising Centers that provide credible and up to date information about tertiary education in the U.S.
