Zimbabwe Newspapers (Zimpapers) Bulawayo employees have vowed to approach Information Media and Broadcasting Services minister Jonathan Moyo to address salary disparities within the group following a visit by top management today.
According to Radio Dialogue, the employees are not happy after the meeting with the Harare delegation led by group chief operations officer Pikirai Deketeke who announced a 7 percent increment across the board.
The visit was prompted by a petition signed and handed to Deketeke by Zimpapers Bulawayo branch employees weeks ago to rationalise salaries in the group as employees outside the capital felt discriminated.
"Deketeke announced that we would be getting a 7 percent salary increment across the board. In as far as the rationalisation of salaries, he said the company would start with 5 percent end of March on condition that the company has money," said a Zimpapers Bulawayo branch employee.
"If the company manages to raise money, it means that at 5 percent, it will take 12 months for our salaries to be rationalised with those of our colleagues in Harare which we feel is not fair."
The employees said they made their displeasure known to Deketeke and told him that they would be contacting Moyo over the matter.
"Deketeke said Moyo already knows about the matter but we doubt if he was being honest.
It does not make sense, ZBC employees were given their seven months salaries at one go, if that is possible then how can Zimpapers fail to give us 60 percent salary increment which is not back dated," fumed another Zimpapers employee.
