A man who was part of an armed gang that reportedly raided Bakers Inn in Belmont and got away with $1 has appeared in court.
Khumbulani Ncube (34) of Njube was charged with unlawful entry when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Sibongile Msipa. His two other accomplices, brothers, Dingilizwe and Agrippa Mloyi are still on the run.
Prosecuting, Denmore Kasenza told the court that on Monday, at around 0230AM, Ncube, in the company of the Mloyi brothers went to Bakers Inn bakery along Bellevue Road in Belmont.
He said the men made a hole on the roof after jumping over a precast wall.
Kasenza said the alarm went off and alerted security guards who arrested Ncube after his accomplices fled.
An electric winder, a 35 metre electric cable, a set of screw drivers, a cellotape and a scaling rope were recovered on the scene.
Ncube was remanded out of custody on $50 bail to 7 August.
Ncube and his gang were described as "the most clueless robbers I have ever come across" by an official at Innscor, which runs Bakers Inn.
Security footage reportedly showed the gang armed with a knife and wandering aimlessly in offices where there they stole a dollar.
They reportedly looked as if they had planned the robbery at the spur of the moment and were poorly improvising as they went along.
