TWO highly intoxicated pupils from Good Hope College in Pumula South reportedly shocked their school mates when they thoroughly bashed their Maths teacher after he tried to restrain them from fighting.
According to sources, the two form four pupils allegedly went to school under the influence of alcohol. They later had a misunderstanding which resulted in a fight.
One of the staff at the school, Mr Nyashanu tried to stop them, but the tables turned as the boys decided to gang against him and mete instant justice.
There was commotion at the school which disrupted lessons as pupils and other teachers rushed to watch the fight.
"We were dazed by the actions of these two boys. They were drinking and at some point there were insulting everyone in class. They started the fight and when the teacher tried to refrain them, they decided to beat him up," said a source.
It is reported that one boy managed to escape and the other one was taken to Pumula Police station where he was caned by the police.
When B-metro contacted Nyashanu for comment, he dismissed the allegations that he was beaten by the boys saying, "I did not have a fight with the two boys instead it was me and our school security guard who stopped the fight. We then took the two to the police station.
"The boys are just excited of being Ordinary level candidates," said Mr Nyashanu.
Sometime early this year, one of the boys at the centre of controversy reportedly converted school fees money and 'spoilt' his girlfriend.
Cases of students assaulting their teachers seem to be on the increase following government's banning of use of corporal punishment at schools. It is reported that the two rowdy students were suspended after the incident.
