A Zimbabwean business woman based in South Africa reportedly had R16,400 and US$70 stolen by her maid.
The maid, identified as Shupikai (Shuppy) Muchaiwa, is said to have taken the money from her employer's hand bag a few minutes after she left the house to visit a friend's house in the neighbourhood.
The business woman, Silibaziso Hoko, originally from Bulawayo, said she had hired Shupikai as a house helper only to become her theft victim.
"On 2 November this year I hired Shuppy Muchaiwa as a house helper in my house. I am a business woman and own a hair salon and hair studio in Johannesburg.
"On 20 November, I went to my place of business and returned home in the afternoon with a total sum of R16,400 and US$70 in my handbag which I placed in my wardrobe," said the furious Hoko.
"I then had to quickly go and see a friend who resides 5 minutes walk away from my house."
"She searched my bag and took all the money in my bag, locked my children inside the house before running away with all my money," she said.
"I found the house in smoke with the little baby crying uncontrollably and she was nowhere to be seen.
"Shuppy has since switched off her mobile number and I managed to trace her lover Godfrey Makonese who sent me a screenshot of his conversation with Shuppy on Monday."
Hoko said Shuppy is on the run and she has since reported the case to Honeydew police station.
