Community Youth Development Trust said said it stand together with the World as the world commemorate the 16 days of Activism against Gender Based Violence Campaign - as we trust that this is a time to reflect and act towards minimizing and or ending Gender Based Violence which has broken many families and lives in our country.
CYDT said it is fully behind the eradication of gender based violence which have seen a number of young women being victims.
"We also acknowledge that gender based violence comes in many folds such as physical, emotional and economical. As a youth organization working with young women and men, we hope that as we strive from breeding a whole new generation of leaders, we shall also breed young women and men who respect each other and who do not unleash violence on each other," reads the organisation statement.
"Riding on this year's theme "Orange the World: Raise money to end violence against women and girls", we call upon all stakeholders to unite and push this topical agenda. The theme is quite befitting, and calls for everyone to contribute whatever she or he has towards ending VAW. As an organization, we are looking forward to see government through relevant ministries financing activities that seek to raise awareness on ending violence against women."
The organisation said it is calling upon political parties to stop financing activities that cause community divisions such as partisan maize distribution, as they are not sustainable but redistribute such towards increasing awareness on the need to end VAW at community level.
"However, CYDT would like to urge everyone, be it old or young to stand up and do something to end violence against women, not just in these 16 days but beyond lets put on our orange regalia and get involved," reads the statement.
