MP tells Econet to mature

A Harare Zanu PF MP Terence Mukupe has warned the Strive Masiyiwa owned Econet Wireless company to be mature in its business and stop taking its clientele for a ride.
This followed its rush to implement heft rates on data bundles and other services which it later reversed after POTRAZ back tracked on its earlier announcement of the increase of rates in the mobile industry.
"Econet needs to mature and grow up. You don't attack the Minister in public especially when you are using falsehoods. The floor price set by Potraz was 2cents meaning that a 5MB bundle would cost 10 cents," Mukupe said.
"Econet went on to hike their charge to an astronomical 50 cents for a 5MB data bundle and blamed it on Minister Supa Mandiwanzira! Kusanyara for an organisation that calls itself a "Christian" organisation. Who is Econet and Doug Mbiweni kidding. Data just disappears on your phone without even having access to data during the designated period which is a clear case of theft. I took Econet on last year when I experienced a similar situation whereby I bought data bundles and failed to connect to their network for 24 hrs."
He said upon contacting customer care that he be reimbursed his data, they gave him the middle finger and pointed him to their terms and conditions.
"The citizens of Zimbabwe have been exploited by Econet for too long and enough is enough," he said.
"Who is Econet trying to hoodwink... They have the worst service and are the most expensive. It never seizes to amaze me how it's never they fault with anything. So much for an organization that purports to be Christian centered but takes the consumers for granted."
