A political commentator Petros Joseph Dube‎ has said the bad portrayal of Ndebeles has continued since Independence amid concerns that the move was stereotyping the tribe and causing its marginalisation.

"As negative Potrayal of Ndebele History continues in Zimbabwe, whenever some injustices committed to the people of Matebeleland after independence are mentioned there are some people who are very quick to mention early Ndebele raids during Mzilikazi and Lobengula s era," Dube said.

"Honestly speaking if you study precolonial history you will understand that by then RAIDING was the order of the day. All tribes including ancestors of Shonas raided minor or weaker Kingdoms in order to enlarge their Kingdoms."

He said Matebele raids are exaggerated simply because there is an agenda to portray Ndebeles or Matebele as evil people.

"What perplexes me is the notion that these apologists are blaming everyone who speaks Ndebele for those raids when it is apparent that the majority of people who are now called Ndebeles are descendants of Rozvi and Bukalanga Kingdoms," he said.

"Little knowledge is very dangerous sometimes."
