The Restoration Agenda is a Human Right

On behalf of the 1893 Matebeleland Restoration Movement, a Movement that embraces all Matebeleland Restorationists, and established by umthwakazireview.com members, and recognising the significant contribution made by one Thembani Dube in creating conditions necessary for the establishment of such an all-encompassing International Restoration Movement and on behalf of the State of Matebeleland and its oppressed peoples and all gathered here, l hereby express my deepest gratitude and privilege of addressing this important gathering today.

Country men and women, our fellow African and International friends, you will notice that the name we have given to our organization is not accidental but by design and acknowledgement that Matebeleland existed as a Nation/Kingdom before its destruction in 1893 by Rhodes and his accomplices.

This destruction led to Matebeleland's unification with Mashonaland thereafter to form Southern Rhodesia, then Rhodesia-Zimbabwe and then Zimbabwe Today. This is one important information that most people are not aware of regarding Matebeleland. Matebeleland is therefore a country within a country known as Zimbabwe Today. Therefore, as a Movement, we are on a path to restore our country to its 1893 borders and in the process adopting a non-violence principle to do so.

The colonial event I narrated above, regarding Matebeleland, is the source of all problems that face Matebeleland Today. The conquest of Matebeleland by Rhodes and his accomplices is the foundational cause of the gross violation of our Human Rights as the peoples of Matebeleland today. It gave birth to the 1983 Gukurahundi Genocide committed against our people by the government of Zimbabwe.

As we look at our colonial past and what has been happening since 1980 up to this day, we observe a litany of gross Human Rights violations in our country such as Genocides, Land dispossessions and confiscations, cultural and language imperialism as well as economic genocide against our peoples.

For a long time our people have tried their best to co-exist with their oppressors and aggressors without any extension of the hand of peace and progress from them but only a violent hand that continues to violate their rights with impunity.

Therefore, as the 1893 Restoration Movement, we have been left with no option but to take the route of Self Determination/Restoration for our Country. As we do so, we are fully aware that our cause speaks to the truism that Self Determination is recognized in the Charter of the United Nations and the International Covenant on Civil Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

We are also taking this route fully guided by the fact that Self Determination is a principle acknowledged by International law that allows the people of a state to determine their sovereignty and political status.

Article 1 (2) and Article 55 of the United Nations Charter as well as articles 73 and 76 recognize self-determination as a human right. The same concept is further acknowledged in the 1970 Friendly Relations Declaration. Therefore, Self Determination is a moral and a legal human right! Our Restoration Agenda is therefore moral and legit.

As regard the Gukurahundi Genocide, we want nothing else but Truth, Justice, Reparations and Healing for our people. We condemn the "National Peace and Reconciliation" Bill that is currently being instituted in Zimbabwe. It seeks to downplay Gukurahundi Genocide, short-change victims of the Truth and Justice and protect its perpetrators.  We therefore encourage Mthwakazi to denounce the Bill and not take part in it. As a Movement, we will be setting our own Agenda in consultation with our people, uLoyiko and the International Community on how the Gukurahundi Genocide can best be resolved so that Truth, Justice, Reparations and Healing can best be served on our people.

Guided by our Movement's Slogan of "Restore, Rebuild and Prosper", we are on course to "Restore" our country and our peoples' Rights as well as "Rebuild" our country from the ashes of destruction and mayhem since 1893. We are also on course to make it "Prosper" long term.

In that regard, we encourage our people to change gear, and with passion, commitment and pride become seized with the Restoration Agenda for the greatest good of our people.

We believe that our all-embracing and all-encompassing 1893 Matebelelend Restoration Movement offers hope and the best future for our country that we dearly love.

We deeply, from the bottom of our hearts, thank uLoyiko for doing such a sterling job. Long may this great work continue. uLoyiko must count on us and the people of Matebeleland for support. It is said that all great minds run in the same channel. It appears that we are running in the same channel indeed.

I thank You

Mr Vusani Maqeda Ngwenya
