A 14- year-old Chitungwiza boy died on Monday after he was admitted at Chitungwiza Central Hospital over attempted suicide following a confrontation with his mother.
Steady Takunda Wazvaremaka was initially saved from death by his brother after he was found hanging by the neck on an electric cable before he eventually succumbed to the injuries.
Impeccable sources told H-Metro that Takunda was expelled from a mission school last year over indecent photographs that were discovered in his mobile phone.
"He was initially saved as he tried to commit suicide but during the attempt, he sustained serious brain damage so it was going be a miracle if he had survived.
"It's unfortunate he could not stand being reprimanded by his mother prompting him to attempt suicide. This boy was expelled from boarding school last year after he was found with indecent pictures in his phone," the source said.
When H-Metro attended the funeral at House No. 8701 unit K, Chitungwza yesterday, scores of mourners including students from Seke 6 High School where he was now learning paid their condolences and one of the students prayed that Takunda be forgiven.
Unpacking the events leading to the lad's deaths in prayer, one of the mourners appealed to God to forgive the deceased's parents and the child's soul noting that evil spirits were hovering over the family.
"Tinokumbira mweya waMwari uiise runyararo , mweya wekuregerera ngaubate tinoramba mweya wakaipa weSatanism muzvikoro," she said praying.
Takunda's father who is still to come to terms with the death, refused to entertain H-Metro saying the funeral was private.
"I am not comfortable with the press at the moment and I feel it is private," said Wazvaramaka.
However, Takunda's aunt – only identified as Mai Witness – said the late was admitted at Harare Central Hospital and Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals before he was referred back to Chitungwiza Central Hospital as they grappled to save his life.
"We tried everything to save his life but I want to believe time had already come for him to be with the Lord.
"Several doctors tried hard to save his life as he was shuttled between three referral hospitals but all in vain.
"Akawanikwa akazvisunga netambo husiku kuma 11pm and we were all shocked since the issue of a cellphone he had quarrelled about with his mother was over. If all goes according to plan, we are expecting to bury him tomorrow (today) in Chihota."
