Several senior politicians from both the ruling party and the opposition in Harare have confirmed to us that the revival of Mthwakazi Restoration politics and the subsequent formation of the ever influencial Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has rattled their minds and they are trying to find a lasting solution to it.
Early this year the Mthwakazi party MRP spokesperson Mbonisi Gumbo revealed that there were efforts by some of the big opposition parties to have MRP joining the grand coalition, it was further revealed that both MDC-T and NPP officials had approached the party offering to give Matabeleland Devolution and Federalism respectively on condition they drop their Restoration calls, the talks did not conclude after the youthful leadership insisted that they don't want anything to do with Zimbabwe.
This publication can now reveal that it was actually true that the so called National parties approached the Mthwakazi party. A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the Thokozani Khuphe faction of the MDC-T, NPP as well as disgrantled PDP members are willing to work with MRP and talks are under way.
Mqondisi Moyo could be the youngest presidential candidate next year to challenge Mugabe if all goes well, we want to teach Tsvangirai a lesson, his dominance in Matabeleland is coming to an end. Said the source.
We want Mqondisi Moyo to contest as a presidential candidate, we will back him even the international community some of them believes that a leader from the minority tribe can unite the country. The problem is that Mqondisi Moyo has stayed clear of the talks he is always not available for such talks, he always sends Mbonisi Gumbo and Ackim Mhlanga whenever we engage something that made the talks not to conclude because the two are very stubborn and they don't compromise.
It was further revealed that not only is the opposition chasing after MRP even the various Ndebele Kingship candidates within the Khumalo family are also in talks to have MRP backing them, because of the perceived influence the party is suspected to have.
Both Stanley and Bulelani Khumalo factions as well as the Zwide faction have met MRP officials. The latest being Chief Khayisa Ndiweni who is reportedly behind the South African born Bulelani Khumalo, Chief Khayisa met Mbonisi Gumbo at his residence in Ntabazinduna where he is reported to have asked MRP to back B Khumalo in return he will mobalise other Chiefs to back MRP, and further more he will help with the funding of the party since the party has no sponsor at all.
MRP has so far stayed clear of the Kingship issue, while insisting that it will not take sides.
Meanwhile both the G40 and the Lacoste factions within the faction ridden ZANU PF party currently fighting their factional, tribal and succession wars they are also said to be busy trying to influence Matabeleland politics. A source within ZANU PF Politburo told this publication that the Mthwakazi issue have been discussed in Politburo, and the Lacoste faction is accusing G40 for sponsoring MRP something which they have refused outrightly.
As we go to election time a lot is set to happen some of which we can never imagine, Mbonisi Gumbo who have not been active since the passing on of his wife has not been reachable on his mobile number, while Khuphe's phone went unanswered.
