CHIEF Njelele has expressed concern on the growing reports of an unidentified man who is going around in Gokwe masquerading as his son while duping villagers using his name.
An unknown man identifying himself as Emmanuel Njelele last week visited Headman Chisina's area after which he said he intended to marry the traditional way.
A virgin girl from Village Makiwa was then identified for the bogus chief's son who then immediately had sexual intercourse with the young girl before he fled.
In an interview, Chief Njelele said what was disturbing in the incident was that he also had a son by the name Emmanuel.
"This unidentified man has gone around different areas of Gokwe duping villagers in my name. What is more disturbing is that I do have a son by the name Emmanuel. My son is, however, with me at home and I don't know how the villagers are falling prey to this man," he said.
Chief Njelele said the bogus chief's son recently went to Chief Nemangwe's area where he misinformed some of his relatives there that he was seriously ill.
"My relatives stay about 100 km away in Chief Nemangwe's area. This man recently visited my relatives there and told them that he was my son before he lied to them that I was seriously ill. He went on to demand money from my relatives after duping them that he was on a mission to tell other relatives of my illness," he said.
Chief Njelele said he was shocked when he learnt recently that the man had gone to as far as abusing a villager's virgin daughter after duping her parents that he intended to marry her.
"I have since met the parents of the young girl who was recently abused by the suspect after he also posed as my son and indicated to them that he intended to marry in the traditional manner. I quizzed the parents of the girl on how they fell prey to the antics of this man to the extent of letting their child get abused so easily," he said.
The traditional leader urged the police to step up investigations that would lead to the arrest of the suspect.
"This person should be arrested and prosecuted for the criminal activities he has been going around committing," he said.
Police in Gokwe last week said they had launched a manhunt for the suspect after he jumped off a moving scotch-cart and fled with a cellphone and a jacket of the 16-year-old girl from Makiwa Village whom he had been "given" to marry.
When he fled, he was on the way to Chief Njelele's homestead with a delegation from Headman Chisina, which intended to surrender the "bride" the traditional way.
