Victims of Gukurahundi will be accorded National Heroes status - ZimFirst

ZimFirst leader Maxwell Shumba has promised that his government will accord the victims of the government sponsored Gukurahundi of the 1980s heroes status.
"Victims of Gukurahundi will be accorded National Heroes status. National heroes under a ZimFirst government and they will be given benefits under the National Social Security program which will be administered by the Department of Social Services. The Department of Social Services falls under the newly minted Department of Labour and Social Services," he said.
"The designation of National Hero Status, who benefits from the program, the degree and type of benefits will be determined by the Department of Social Services in consultation with stakeholder groups in Matebeleland which falls under the Ministry of Labour and Social Services."
He said there will be a national healing commission for victims of the Gukurahundi massacre and victims of political Violence.
"This program will deal with Survivors and victims of the Gukurahundi atrocities and all other of political violence. The focus will be to bring a closure to families who lost loved ones at the hands of the state and ensure that Zimbabweans can be rehabilitated from the traumatic experiences induced by the atrocities," he said.
"ZimFirst has Directorate of National Integration that will focus on National healing and explaining what the process will comprise of. Pastor Ndoma heads the Directorate and in time when we are fully capacitated it will begin work engaging stakeholders . A ZimFirst government will ensure that all those who suffered at the hands of the current government are taken care of appropriately."
