Former Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Professor Jonathan Moyo on Saturday (yesterday) said "unless mediated and cured, a coup can only produce an illegitimate government."

Moyo said when there was a military coup in Zimbabwe in 2008 SADC and AU intervention led to a government of national union (GNU).

"When there was Military intervention in Zimbabwe which amounted to a coup in #2008, there was a stalemate & #Sadc intervened supported by the #AU. The intervention led to the #GNU in #2009. Unless mediated & cured, a coup can only produce an illegitimate government!, #CuretheCoup," reads Moyo's tweet.

Moyo's statement did not go unchallenged with some people asking why he is now admitting that they was a military coup in 2008 yet for all along he had been saying Zanu-PF won free and fair.

@dmmhambare responded to Moyo saying: "You now admit it was a coup in 2008.all along you claimed MDC ddnt win. Carry your cross. You benefited from a coup period. Sit down. Just like u in 2008 we are enjoying  a coup. When we need you, we shall contact you, at the moment we are ok."

Another Twitter user @kasiyano also attacked Moyo saying: "Go to hell, why are you telling us now. We know MDC won but then you were at the front of denying it!"

@sanderzmak added: "And you used to say Zanu PF won in free and fair elections in 2008? Have you no shame Mlevu?"
