An MDC official Discent Collins Bajila has described the claims that opposition officials invited to the USA went there for extension of sanctions against Zanu-PF as hogwash.
He said the idea that when US Legislators invite Zimbabwean Activists to speak to them about the situation in Zimbabwe is an opposition call for extension of sanctions is quite nonsensical.
"More so because at the time the US Legislature invited these prominent leaders, the US Executive, through its Ambassador to Zimbabwe, invited Foreign Affairs Minister for a similar appraisal. We saw Brigadier General Sibusiso Moyo and Ambassador Thomas in talks," he said.
"Prior to the coup Constantino Chiwenga was in China. During the coup itself LaCoste zealots like Hon Temba P Mliswa were buoyant about their trips to Botswana to lobby the international community to either support the coup or play the non interference card. In 2013, 250 Nissan Everest's were donated to Zanu-PF by China. Zanu-PF provincial leaders attended seminars and trainings in China."
He said bogus mega deals that have brought no cent to Zimbabwe are all over ministerial files yet the US which we are told is citizens' enemy supplies them with condoms, ARVs and other drugs as a donation.
"USAID has maintained its presence in Zimbabwe supporting various civic and economic grassroots initiatives. They have not been giving us bogus loans but rather donations. Get fooled as much as you can. The wording of the speeches made by MDC Alliance delegates have no position for or against sanctions. They are simply an appraisal on Zimbabwe since 18 Nov 2017," he said.
"Any other party has a right to seek audience with the US Legislature or Executive to put forward their appraisal. However, the US is not a supervisor to Zimbabwe. To have tax evaders like Terence Mukupe placing themselves at a pedestal where they imagine that there is a requirement for Tendai Biti to seek their forgiveness because Biti went to the US is quite laughable."
