A KWEKWE man will rue being a landlord after he was assaulted with a pick handle by one of his tenants for "improperly" demanding rentals.

Davies Nyoni of Mbizo high-density suburb was severely assaulted with a pick handle by Asau Andrew who was incensed by his landlord's way of requesting his dues.

It is alleged that on the fateful day, Nyoni went around his properties collecting rentals from his tenants.

Upon knocking at Andrew's door, the tenant did not respond, prompting him to continue knocking since he could hear voices inside.

After some minutes, Andrew allegedly came out carrying a pick handle and without saying anything, used it to assault Nyoni.

Nyoni reported the matter to the police leading to Andrew's arrest.

Andrew appeared before Kwekwe magistrate Mr Lavroe Philemon last week facing a charge of assault.

In mitigation, Andrew said he was angered by the way Nyoni approached him.

"I assaulted him because when he came to my house he was shouting at me attracting neighbours' attention so I wanted to teach him a lesson," Andrew said.

Andrew was sentenced to nine months in prison of which three were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence in the next five years. The remaining six months were also suspended on condition that he performs 210 hours of community service at Dambudzo Primary School.

In an unrelated incident a woman from Zhombe was assaulted for making a follow-up on a 50 cents debt.

Ronica Milanzi of Musekiwa Village under Chief Samambwa in Zhombe was assaulted by Virginia Chipare for asking for her 50 cents which the former owed her.

It is alleged that on 26 October, Milanzi went to Chipare's homestead to ask about the debt.

Incensed by Milanzi's actions, Chipare grabbed her by the collar and tripped her to the ground.

"I went to Chipare to ask about my money but I was shocked when she grabbed me by the collar and started beating me up," Milanzi told Kwekwe magistrate Mr Philemon.

In mitigation, Chipare told the court that there was bad blood between her and Milanzi and the complainant was making up the story to fix her.

"Your Worship, this woman hates me and she is trying to punish me by making up stories," Chipare said.

Mr Philemon threw the charges away for lack of evidence.
