A Chitungwiza man yesterday revealed that his wife of 15 years is denying him conjugal rights.

Sigavanhu Shumba, 39, dragged Vongai Zhou to Chitungwiza magistrates' court accusing her of attacking him with a stone and attempting to strike him with a hoe.

Vongai pleaded not guilty to physical abuse charges when she appeared before magistrate Yeukai Chigodora.

The State, led by Farai Katonha, alleges that on March 1, the couple had a misunderstanding over the death of their child.

As a result, the accused struck the complainant with a stone and threatened to strike him with a hoe.

It is the court's case that the complainant did not sustain visible injuries and was not medically examined.

Vongai dismissed the allegations saying her husband had a tendency of fabricating things.

"He is lying, the issue is that when we lost our 13-year-old child my parents took me to their place where they consoled me.

"I stayed there for some time and when I returned home I found him cohabiting with another woman.

"Our tenant is the one who facilitated the relationship so he just wants me out of the matrimonial home.

"He no longer loves me and he gave his girlfriend my household property," she said.

She added:

"He is the one who wanted to beat me but I ran away because I had asked about the whereabouts of my cellphone.

"I sought legal advice from a policeman who resides close to our place.

"When he saw that I had gone to the police, he went to St Mary's Police Station where he reported falsehoods."

Shumba told the court that his wife was denying him conjugal rights that's why he was now sleeping in the dining room.

"I am sex starved for two years and the matter is being settled by family members.

"I did not want to report the case to the police but I just wanted her to give me the cellphone she had taken.

"I am not sure if I still love her, I will decide when we finish the discussions with her relatives," he said.

The matter is expected to be back in court on March 21 for trial continuation.
