Chikomba Residents and Rate payers' Alliance (CHRRA) has petitioned President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Local Government minister July Moyo to investigate the local authority over allegations of maladministration and corruption, which is taking a toll on service delivery
CHRRA chairperson Collen Zvarevashe said demonstrations and attempts to engage with the local council have been unsuccessful.
"Prior to the demonstration, CHRRA made several attempts to engage the district, provincial administrator, principal director in the Local Government ministry in an effort to resolve suspected maladministration, poor service delivery and corruption levelled against the authorities at the council, but it was to no avail," he said in a statement.
Zvarevashe said residents suspected that there was abuse of council funds and wanted a forensic audit to be carried out.
Chikomba chief executive officer, Lackson Mutara refused to comment, saying he had already given a response to another newspaper.
