Government committed to improve road infrastructure

Government remains committed to improve the country's road infrastructure with the tarring of Charter-Chisengu road imminent.
A ground breaking ceremony of the Charter-Chisengu road was held in Chimanimani where the guest of honour Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said the tarring of the road portion that was left untarred in 1996 is finally happening.
Minister Mutsvangwa said government is mobilising resources through luring of foreign direct investments under the mantra, "Zimbabwe is open for business" and projects such as gravelling of Rusitu road and subsequent tarring are on the priority list for Chimanimani.
"The new government led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa is committed to improve road infrastructure among other key development initiatives that can revive the country's economy," said Minister Mutsvangwa.
He also commented the area's Zanu PF Central Committee member Joshua Saco for using his resources to do spot gravelling on areas that have not been able to be attended by government so far.
"Gravelling and grading of Machongwe to Nyahode junction being funded by Saco has commenced," added Mutsvangwa.
Saco who lobbied for the tarring of the road this January said it is his hope that more resources are mobilised to improve the entire road network up to Rusitu.
"Government should be credited for its efforts towards rehabilitation of the roads. We urge the authorities to continue with the good work," he said.
In the immediate future, government plans to work on the Kopa-Jopa road and gravelling of Chikukwa road in Chimanimani among other road rehabilitation and surfacing projects.
