The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has intensified preparations for the 2018 harmonised elections set for the 30th of this month with a total of 40 Hwange West ward election officers successfully completing a three-day long training workshop aimed at equipping the officers with relevant information for the holding of free, fair and credible elections.
Ward elections officers, presiding officers and polling officers are expected to play a critical role in the holding of free, fair and credible elections.
With a view to equip the officers with relevant skills and information, ZEC is currently holding training workshops across the country to ensure that the teams are well prepared for the assignment.
Hwange West constituency elections officer, Mr Roland Sibanda said the three day training workshop held at Mosi-Oa-Tunya High School in Victoria Falls has been fruitful with all the participants confident of effectively discharging their duties during the impending polls.
"We have been training the officers for the past few days and I am happy with the level of participation. The workshop was meant to equip the officers with relevant skills," he said.
The training workshop focused on the polling process, provisions of the electoral law and the Constitution.
According to the ZEC officials separate training workshops are also lined up for presiding officers and polling officers ahead of deployment to the various centres.
The 2018 harmonised elections will be held on the 30th of this month and will be polling station based meaning a voter must cast his or her vote at the designated polling station indicated in the registration details.
