A 34-year-old man has been dragged to court by a city hooker over allegations he deliberately tore a condom during sex.
Godfrey Muteswa was hauled before Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa facing rape allegations on Wednesday.
He denied the charges, arguing that the condom burst accidentally. He was remanded in custody and ordered to apply for bail at the High Court.
Allegations against him arose on July 30 this year when he picked up a 28-year-old commercial sex worker at Joy Centre Night club in Machipisa, Highfield.
Prosecutors alleged the two agreed to engage in sex for $10.
They proceeded to the complainant's place of residence in the same suburb where the woman reportedly gave Muteswa a condom to use.
It is alleged Muteswa wore the condom but went on to tear it when the two were about to engage in sex.
The woman realised that Muteswa had done and ordered him to stop but he resisted and went on to sleep with her without protection.
Prosecutors further allege that Muteswa paid $8 instead of the agreed $10.
After the abuse, the sex worker immediately called a taxi and went to report the case at the police.
Muteswa is denying the allegations saying he was the one exposed to diseases considering that the condom accidentally burst during the act.
It is his defence that he did not tear the condom and was also shocked to discover that it burst during sex.
He also said he successfully negotiated to pay $8 although the hooker had initially charged him $10.
The case was postponed to a later date pending trial.
