Mnangagwa tours Glen View cholera centre

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is currently touring the two cholera treatment centres in Harare – Glen View 1 Polyclinic and Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital.

Speaking in Glen View, President Mnangagwa commended the corporate sector for responding to appeals to support the fight against the cholera outbreak.

We have UNICEF, MSF and others also chipping in with support)," said President Mnangagwa.

President Mnangagwa also revealed that another corporate, Ecobank, came to his office this morning and donated US$200 000 towards the fight against the cholera epidemic.

He assured the residents of Glen View and the country at large, that government is mobilising funds to repair the broken sewer pipes as well as ensure the availability of clean, safe water.

(The outbreak started in Harare, government is working hard to ensure funding is found to rehabilitate the broken sewer pipes and clean water challenges which have resulted in the outbreak)," he said.

President Mnangagwa said the figures of those affected are going down by each day.

He said the government will support the Harare city council to ensure Harare becomes clean again, saying they do not have capacity on their own.

The President also urged residents to maintain cleanliness, saying "cleanliness is next to Godliness".

"Make sure your environments are kept clean. Safe sanitation throughout," President Mnangagwa said.

He urged the Ministry of Health and Child Care to outline their requirements in terms of medical supplies so that government can ensure these are availed.

President Mnangagwa also took the opportunity to console families whose loved ones have succumbed to the cholera epidemic and assured them that they will get the necessary support from government.

Among the corporates who have responded to the call to support efforts to fight the cholera epidemic is Spar Zimbabwe, who revealed that they are providing 40 000 litres of water every day.

From Glen View, the President headed to the other cholera treatment centre – Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital.

He is accompanied by the two vice presidents Retired General Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister July Moyo, Health and Child Care Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo and other government officials and party officials.
