Bid to save a brother from being sacked at an organisation for lack of 5 O'levels backfired for a Harare teenager who dubiously sat for a Science subject on his behalf and was caught by the invigilator at Goketa Secondary in Chiweshe recently.

Hebert Yotamu (19) from Budiriro 1 appeared before Concession magistrate Nyasha Machiririori yesterday for contravening Section 35(d) of the Zimbabwe School Examination Council Act Chapter 25:18.

Yotamu pleaded guilty to the charge and was warned, caution and discharged by the magistrate who cited that he was a youthful offender who had been misinformed and misguided by his unscrupulous older brother.

Public prosecutor Munyaradzi Nengomasha told the court that on 15 October and at Goteka Secondary School, Chiweshe, the accused person entered in a science examination room and produced Berry Darlington's identification card as his so that he would write the exam for him.

When the invigilator Caroline Mudzimu cross checked the identification cards and she noticed that the accused person did not look alike with the identification card he produced thus she called Moses Sada the other invigilator for verification.

The two further interrogated the accused person till he agreed that he was not Berry Darlington, he was then apprehended and taken to the police.

In mitigation Yotamu pleaded with the magistrate that his brother tricked him saying it was not an offence since he  desperately needed 5 O levels to continue working where he is currently working since he does not have any O level subject.

"Your worship l was tricked by briother into believing that it was not an offence after he talked  to all the teachers for the deal to sail through, this was just a desperate measure for him since at his current work place they now require 5 Olevels yet he does not have even one."
