Zuva selling fuel in foreign currency?
29 Nov 2018 at 03:15hrs | Views
ZUVA Petroleum appears to have instructed its retailers to only accept payment in foreign currency.
A manager at Zuva service station at Groombridge Harare this morning told Kukurigo they could only accept payment through Mastercard and Visa before referring further questions to Zuva Petroleum.
Efforts to secure official comment were unsuccessful as the Marketing manager was said to be locked in meetings.
The development lends credence to speculation that government is planning to gradually push motorists to pay for fuel in foreign currency by squeezing supply.
A source close to developments earlier this week told Kukurigo government would designate fuel stations where payment would be required in US dollars, ostensibly to cater for foreign vehicles."The plan is to make those who can afford US dollars pay in foreign currency by making it very inconvenient to wait in queues," the source said.
The claims could not be verified at the time but now appear true.
