Four of the six suspected machete wielding robbers linked to a spate of robberies in Mutare appeared in court facing 14 counts of robbery, 2 counts of attempted murder, 2 counts of rape, 5 counts of unlawful entry and 1 count of possession of articles for criminal use.
The suspects Artwell Murwisi (25) from Harare, Prosper Mudzingwa (20) from Kadoma, Kudakwashe Kupara (37) from Mutare and Annie Rejoice Kahwema (31) also from Mutare, appeared before Mutare Magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe who remanded them in custody to December 11.
They were advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
The four were allegedly found in possession of four blood-stained machetes, two catapults and two torches that are believed to be the weapons used to commit the alleged offences.
The quartet allegedly forced their entry into their unsuspecting victims' houses during the night and threatened the victims with death and at times would strike them with machetes before demanding for valuables.
In other cases, it is believed that one of the accused would sexually assault their female victims while the rest of the gang watched.
The suspects were apprehended at Mandisa Night Club where they attacked security personnel with machetes.
Club patrons alerted the police leading to their arrest.
