How do you fill in a legend's shoes? How do you keep the legend's memory alive? Do you continue doing what the legend used to do? Or perhaps you allow and make use of those with similar talent to carry the legend's torch.

These are some of the questions that confront the family of the late national hero Oliver Mtukudzi. This is in light of the fact that his widow Daisy is the natural heir to the estate of the late musician but Selmor, his daughter, has the musical talent.

However, there has been a cold war between Daisy on one hand and Sandra and Selmor Mtukudzi's children from his first marriage.

But now, Mtukudzi's family have told his widow, Daisy, to work with the musician's children to keep his legacy alive. This comes after Daisy had distanced herself from the various memorial gigs that have been held in the country and in South Africa. Selmor and Sandra participated in some of the shows.

An insider told BT Life there have been a number of meetings that were held in Madziwa, where a number of issues were agreed to until the memorial service is held.

It was agreed that Daisy would work with Sandra and Selmor in keeping the legacy of the musician alive but the family will discuss everything including the fate of the Black Spirits after the memorial service.

The meetings, according to the source, were attended by close relatives including Sandra and Selmor who all agreed to abide by the agreement to have everything published after the memorial service.

"There are a number of meetings that were held in Madzivwa after the death of the musician and they agreed as a family that nothing will be discussed until the memorial ser vice is held. After that the family will map a way forward including the operation of the Black Spirits.

"Some relatives were not happy with the statement published on Tuku's Official page and urged the two parties to work together," he said.

Daisy's statement, according to sources, angered some relatives of the musician who then told her to work with Selmor and Sandra so that the legacy of the musician lives on.

Family spokesperson and nephew Victor Rukainga professed ignorance on the matter and said that the family will only be free to speak after the planned memorial service.

Daisy declined to comment when Business Times called her this week.

On Monday, Selmor issued a statement thanking the world and insisted on doing shows in honour of her late father Oliver.

"In the meantime we shall be hosting a number of shows in Zimbabwe, South Africa and the United Kingdom as we embark on the Selmor Mtukudzi and Friends Concert in 2019. These concerts will feature both local and foreign artistes. The first show will be held in Harare on March 29 2019; we dedicate every performance and every show we do, to our father, Dr Oliver Mtukudzi," she said.
