Witchdoctors from Lusaka are reported to have landed in the country to conduct cleansing rituals for members of the fifth brigade and other government officials who participated in the Gukurahundi genocide that took place in the 1980s.

Confirming their arrivals NPF Spokesperson Jealousy Mawarire said, "Reburials are very important to superstitious Gukurahundists who are afraid of reprisals from avenging spirits. Vanoona zvipoko everytime when they go to sleep thats why last week they jetted N'angas from Zambia. Most of their decisions are N'anga inspired hence not rational."

President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently said Gukurahundi genocide should not be a sacred issue but must be allowed to be discussed in all platforms.

Alpha Media Holdings senior journalist Nqaba Matshazi said Mnangagwa's actions are nothing but tokenism.

"We should discuss Mnangagwa's superficial handling of the Gukurahundi massacres, where his administration wants to start with the least important issue; reburials. What's needed is justice and acknowledgment of what happened more than anything. In his interview on Saturday, he says people should be free to debate Gukurahundi. From letting "bygones be bygones" to freedom to "debate". We are operating on "commands", how long before the debate becomes uncomfortable and we are told to stop.

"His spokesman, Charamba describes Gukurahundi as a war, a blatant lie from a person whose newspaper columns thrives on bigotry. This betrays a lack of sincerity from this administration and the so-called opening up debate on Gukurahundi is a box-ticking exercise. One of the issues that keeps being raised in Mnangagwa's so-called re-engagement efforts is the issue of Gukurahundi. This is just a PR exercise with no substance. If he was sincere, he would release the commission of enquiry reports on Gukurahundi to kickstart the debate. But he won't, because before he has argued the reports went missing. At best this "opening up on Gukurahundi" is simply tokenism."
