Police Staff College principal, Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba yesterday said the college had been granted authority to offer Bachelor in Adult Education honours degree in police studies by the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE).

Speaking during the official opening of the college's 2019 academic year at Morris Depot in Harare, Charamba said the new degree programme would be run in partnership with the University of Zimbabwe (UZ).

"May I take this opportunity to bring to your attention that the college has scored a first by being granted the authority to offer the Bachelor in Adult Education honours degree in police studies by ZIMCHE. This programme will be run under the affiliate of UZ," she said.

She said the introduction of the programme had furthered the development of the college with the inclusion of the installation of interactive boards and enhanced access speed WiFi network for research.

"The college has made great strides in developing itself for this great feat. These developments include the installation of interactive boards to facilitate learning, dedicated WiFi network with enhanced access speed for research, refurbished hostels for improved students accommodation as well as sinking of boreholes and fitting of water tanks to ease off water challenges at the college," she said.

Charamba also stated that the college had witnessed an increase in female enrolment from 25% to 32% due to rigorous selection that ensured gender representation.

Speaking at the same event, police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga urged the college to collaborate with already-established universities.

"Let me take this opportunity to implore you as the organisation's pinnacle of capacity development to continue engaging and collaborating with established universities locally and abroad," Matanga said.
