Chamisa in a dilemma

MDC President Nelson Chamisa is in a dilemma as he could see some of his allies fall by the sword on the 25th.

It is now a given that Chamisa will become the substantive successor to the MDC's revered founding president, Morgan Tsvangirai, who died early last year after losing his valiant battle against cancer of the colon.

The party's coup interim leader, Chamisa - who narrowly lost to President Emmerson Mnangagwa in last year's historic elections - successfully waded off challenges from Mudzuri and the party's outgoing secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora, whose future in the movement now hangs by the thread after he was nominated by one province for the post of secretary-general.

Opening up the contest, Chamisa has given the green-light among the party heavyweights who are eying the vice presidency, secretary-general, organising-secretary and treasurer-general to start the campaigns.

Eight of Chamisa's allies, namely Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, Elias Mudzuri, Morgen Komichi, Lilian Timvoes, Lynnette Karenyi Kore, Paurina Mpariwa and Tracey Mutinhiri are all vying for the party's three vice presidency slots.

"Chamisa is close to Biti, and Komichi, however he needs Ncube for regional balance to make matters worse the party has already said one of the three vice presidents should be a woman so definitely some giants are going to fall by the wayside," the insider said.

Chamisa was also mandated to ensure that one of the vice presidents is a woman something that insiders say has ruffled a few bigwigs.

This means that among Biti, Ncube, Mudzuri and Komichi one of them will have to step aside for a woman.

"The National Council also resolved to reserve a seat for a female VP and modalities for the same shall be finalised by the Electoral Commission," read part of the resolutions.

Already the aspiring vice presidents have started campaigning with some producing posters pregnant with their promises.
