56-year-old ZANU PF Youth leader Pupurai Togarepi has called for the arrest of business people accused of externalizing foreign currency.
In 2017 President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced a list of businesses that were accused of externalizing foreign currencyamounting to millions of dollars.
Said Togarepi, "Whoever got forex from government purporting to procure essential good: pharmaceuticals, fuel, basic commodities etc but pocketed the money instead we want the money back. PAY BACK THE MONEY or go to jail."
Businessman tycoon Mutumwa Mawere and Chinese mining companies were among those topped the list of people accused by Mnangagwa.
Earlier in 2018 Mnangagwa said his call for people to pay back the money was being heeded and substantial millions have been returned.
Mnangagwa said at the time that those who returned their illegally earned cash were going to be pardoned unconditionally.
Mnangagwa, who took over from long ruling Robert Mugabe after a bloody military coup, said the operation had discovered that huge funds were illegally externalised.
