THE Passengers Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) has urged the government to liberalize the transport sector and allow private commuters to operate following the challenges that the public has been facing since the imposition of the monopoly.
PAZ acting spokesperson Andrew Sibanda said Zupco must admit it's a failure and allow private transport to operate.
He said Bulawayo's Cowdray Park is always experiencing transport Challenges, especially day to day and evening.
"People going to work and school children are always stranded at the bus stop or terminus which is not good at all. We meant it when we said Zupco cannot service urban setups," he said.
He said the second republic did well in its endeavor to revive the slipping transport system but it's failing to take off as expected due to unforeseen causes like poor management.
"There is theft among others and also shifting priority areas. Zupco management in Bulawayo should wake up and service all areas fairly," he said.
Sibanda said Zupco is risking the lives of the public as it fails to provide transport on time.
"The government should liberalize the transport sector. We want to see private transport in the sector rendering their services to the ever-struggling public," he said.
