Former Botswana President Seretse Khama Ian Khama has responded to reports that he is a fugitive in South Africa after being charged with theft of firearms in 2016.
Speaking to SABC in his hideout in South Africa, Khama said the current Botswana President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi Khama said all the weapons he has are all licensed.
He said Masisi is vindictive because he campaigned for the opposition Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) and removed it from its stronghold in Serowe.
He said all the weapons that he has are kept by the Intelligence unit which is in charge of protecting him.
The former Botswana strongman said Masisi vowed that the family of Sir Seretse Khama (Ian's father) must be driven out of the country, arrested, tortured and eliminated.
He further accuses Masisi of plotting to kill him before the next election billed for 2024.
He says he has survived 3 attempts to eliminate his life.
Khama has been in South Africa since late last year and faces 14 counts relating to the illegal possession of firearms with three other suspects in Botswana.
The four are facing combined 52 charges related to the alleged theft and unlawful possession of firearms.
