The Russian Embassy in the Republic of South Africa has issued a statement condemning the United States of America over its announcement to transfer to Ukraine Russian weapons that were meant to be sent Afghanistan.
The Embassy said the decision was illegal and was done without the consent of the Russian Federation.
Read the full statement below:
Pentagon official representative John Kirby has recently announced another package a military assistance to Ukraine, which includes transfer of 11 Mi-17 helicopters.
Russia's Federal Service a Military-Technical Cooperation strongly protests against any illegal transfer a arms and military equipment a Russian (Soviet) origin to Ukraine or any other countries, including the helicopters supplied by JSC Rosoboronexporb under a 2011 major contract with Pentagon.
This contract and the relevant End User Certificates stipulate that these helicopters are earmarked for transfer by the US Party to the Armed Forces of Afghanistan and are not subject to re-export or transfer to any third country, except for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, without the consent of the Russian Federation.
The arbitrary US decision to supply the mentioned Afghan helicopters to Ukraine constitutes a blatant violation of the fundamentals of international law and the provisions of the Russia-US contracts.
The US failure to supervise further circulation of the arms supplied to Ukraine, as recognized by Pentagon officials, meaning the uncontrolled transfer of the arms to the third party is not excluded, aggravates the increase of terrorist threat in the world.
Russia's FSMTC officially announces that supplying the mentioned helicopters of Russian origin to the Ulcraine Armed Forces by the US Party is illegal.
