Police shoot machete wielding miners

POLICE in Bindura allegedly shot three illegal machete wielding miners who were causing myherm at Kitsiyatota mine in Bindura.


The matter came to light on Thursday at Bindura magistrate courts where Kudakwashe Njenge (26), Tatenda Nosenga (23), Edmore Mabheka (23) appeared before Bindura provincial magistrate Shingirai Mutiro.

The trio were slapped with an effective 60 months in jail.

Prosecutor Carson Kundiona told the court to that the convicts were part of the 30 illegal miners who harassed and assaulted guards at Kitsiyatota mine in a gold dispute.

On March 4 the gang teamed up and went to Kitsiyatota armed with machetes, spears switches and knobkerrie and attacked security guards while demanding gold.

The police was informed and they came fired warning shots intending to disperse the miners but they were moved until they shot the three on their legs.

After seeing that the police were serious on their mission the miners fled in different directions.

The trio were arrested and sent to Bindura hospital for treatment before being dragged to court.
