Choosing journalism in Zimbabwe is tantamount to walking in a minefield. With or without an accreditation card, a journalist has become a sworn enemy of the police.
Assurances from the Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Nyathi recently are just smoke in a pipeline as journalists continue to face the full wrath of police brutality.
This follows the assault and subsequent arrest of freelance journalist Anyway Yotamu last week in Harare.
This incident is a step in the wrong direction that confirms that the Zimbabwe Republic Police reforming even with all the assurances it continues to the public.
What makes matters worse is that even the Minister responsible for the police force, Kazembe Kazembe threatened a free Lance journalist Simbarashe Sithole for exposing corruption.
The behaviour and conduct of the police has left journalists living in fear especially considering that the watershed elections are due next year.
