Zanu-PF Harare Province has held a business symposium aimed at communicating and equipping its members with knowledge on the developments being undertaken to the Second Republic led by President Mnangagwa, so that they disseminate the information to people in their areas.
The workshop, held last Friday, was organised for the District Coordinating Committee (DCCs), secretaries for Economic Affairs, the Women's League, war veterans and Youth League members in Harare province.
The symposium was organised by Zanu-PF Harare provincial Secretary for Economic Affairs, Blessing Chimanga.
Chimanga said they were meeting to update members on the massive investment in high impact projects being implemented by the Government.
"The meeting was simply to educate secretaries for Economic Affairs on their duties as expected by the party's constitution. We wanted to inform and share ideas on how to formulate strategies to counter economic saboteurs who are fighting development in the country," said Chimanga.
President Mnangagwa, he said, was determined to put in place all critical infrastructure to enable the envisaged economic growth and national development that leaves no-one and no place behind as the country marches towards attaining Vision 2030 of an upper middle income economy.
"Basically, we are working towards improving the livelihoods of the people, especially here in Harare. As far as the party constitution is concerned and even the reason why people went to war, it was to fight a system which was oppressing black people economically.
"As secretaries for Economic Affairs, we need to empower our people. We also need to communicate the Government policies and programmes and what has already been done to the people in line with the National Development Strategy 1.
"Right now because of the sanctions imposed by the country's detractors, big companies are no longer operating at the same level they used to. Our main businesses right now are the small to medium enterprises and we are hoping to advance the SMEs business so that they are formally registered and contribute to the national fiscus.,"
He encouraged the business community to exercise a high level of discipline to ensure they do not suffocate the general public through price hikes.
Rosemary Chakacha, the Secretary for Economic Affairs DCC Zone 4, said the workshop will help them educate people back in their areas on projects being undertaken by the Second Republic.
"We are happy with the education we are receiving here. We will relay the information to the lower structures of the party. When we took these positions, we didn't understand the roles we were supposed to play. We just thought it was a political position but we are now able to strategise and implement the resolutions that we got," said Chakacha.
DCC 2 deputy Secretary for Economic Affairs, Christine Karinge-Machingura, said the workshop was meant to educate members on how to transform the country's economy for the better.
"Everyone should play a part in building the country's economy. The Government has put in place policies which are people-centred, hence we need to start self-help projects," she said.
Zanu-PF Harare provincial chairman, Godwills Masimirembwa, said the workshop was meant to popularise party and Government programmes to the lower structures of the party.
"We are in a serious awareness campaign where all provincial secretaries are disseminating information about party policies to the lower structures of the party. Provincial secretaries will engage with the DCC members who will then inform party districts, branch and cell structures about the party's policies and projects being spearheaded at Government level.
"We need to popularise Government projects to all structures of the party. This is what we are doing right now as a province," said Masimirembwa.
