The Zimbabwe Republic Police has issued a statement confirming that the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) results obtained from National University of Science and Technology on 25 November 2022, in connection with the paternity of the 9 year old girl's child have established that the victim's cousin brother (13) is the father of the child.
The controversial case that saw the father of the girl being arrested has finally been laid to rest with the DNA results vindicating the father who denied being involved in the messy affair.
Said the police, "The 9 year old complainant and the suspect will now receive the appropriate counseling from the Police's Victim Friendly Unit (VFU). The Police is now working with other relevant arms of the government to ensure that the due processes of the law are followed."
When the girl gave birth earlier this month First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa expressed her joy at the safe delivery of the new-born soon after her visit.
"I am pleased over the safe birth of the bouncing baby girl today (yesterday). I am grateful that both mother and baby are doing fine and I am particularly relieved that there were no complications during the birth. I am also very thankful that I managed to see the nine-year-old girl on Saturday and she delivered soon after.
"I hope both mother and baby will grow up well, because they are both children. I am looking forward to some kind of normalcy returning to the child's life as she recovers and resumes life as an ordinary nine-year-old despite being a mother at that tender age. I wish the mother a speedy recovery. We are grateful to God for the safe delivery," she was quoted saying.
