Journalists urged to report climate change with caution

Harare Residents Trust director Precious Shumba urged journalists to approach climate change issues to ensure the flow of effective communication to various societal classes and beliefs.

Speaking at a workshop held in Harare today by the Combined Harare Residents Association an the Network for Environmental and Climate Justice he emphasized the criticality of climate change reporting.

"Journalists has a duty to approach climate change from all angles that addresses different classes at national, regional and community levels henceforth media personnels should understand there is a shared meaning in what they disseminate.

Media channels should appreciate the choice of word in reporting climate change to achieve effective communication".

He also urged journalists to research and collect data with the help of the Metrological services to yield detailed stories.

Speaking at the same workshop Hardlife Mudzingwa from Community Water Alliance urged reportage on reviewing governance around water  and civic participation.

He also said reservation of wetlands in Harare is key to curb water shortcomings.
