15 students expelled for indiscipline

Tranquility has been restored at Gokomere High School, a Catholic institution in Masvingo, following disturbances by Form 4 students. This led school authorities to instruct parents to retrieve all Ordinary Level boys from the school. It's important to note that only 15 students have been expelled, while the rest have been allowed to return to the hostels.
In an effort to bring back order, school authorities sent a memo to parents of all Form 4 boys who were boarding at the school, requesting them to take their children home. This was one of several measures aimed at restoring normalcy.
In a letter addressed to parents, the school's principal, Mr. Acquanos Mazhunga, explained that the decision to send all Form 4 boys home was taken in response to the ongoing unrest, particularly a clash between 'O' level and 'A' level boys. He said, "Please come and collect your child today. I am sure this will curb the persistent unrest in the school."
It's worth noting that this development occurred as Ordinary Level candidates had already begun their final examinations.
While most of the Form 4 boys have returned to the school, the 15 students who were expelled will have to commute from home each day to sit for their exams.
Mr. Mazhunga clarified that the decision to have parents pick up their children was prompted by confrontations between some unruly Form 4 students who were in conflict with the Advanced Level boys. He stated, "We now have a peaceful atmosphere at the school, and I am pleased to report that all the Form 4 boys have returned to the school, except for the 15 ringleaders whom we have expelled from the school and who will only return to take their final exams."
Mr. Mazhunga also noted that the same individuals who were expelled from the school were responsible for organizing a disruptive strike at the school recently.
A few weeks ago, Form 4 students from Gokomere High School marched to Masvingo City to present a petition to officials from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, alleging corruption at the school. The students marched along the Harare-Masvingo Highway but were stopped by riot police a few kilometers from the city and ordered to return to the school.
