By-elections date for recalled Bulawayo councillors set

THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has said by-elections for eight recalled Bulawayo Citizen Coalition for Change councillors will be held in December while the nomination court will sit next month.

The Citizen Coalition for Change recalled eight councillors on October 18.

The opposition party recalled Ward 1 councillor Shepherd Sithole, Ward 6 Cllr Nkosinathi Hove Mpofu, Ward 9 ClLr Donaldson Mabutho, Ward 18 Clr  Takunda Madzana, Ward 20 Cllr Simbarashe Dube, Ward 21 Cllr Tinevimbo Maphosa, Ward 22 Cllr Theobeka Moyo and Ward 24 Cllr Arnold Batirai.

In a statement on Tuesday, ZEC chief elections officer Mr Utloile Silaigwana said the Nomination Court will sit in Bulawayo on November 7 while the polls will be held on December 9.

Mr Silaigwana said on the same day, a by-election will be held for recalled CCC Masvingo City Council councilor Yeukai Chiwara.

Also to be replaced are four proportional representation councillors who were recalled by CCC in Bulawayo and these are Sarah Cronje, Tabeth Mhizha, Dorcas Sibanda and Zibusiso Tshongwe while Zanu's PF Rhoda Kunyongana from  Makoni RDC withdrew from council.

Apart from the recalled councillors, Zec will also administer an election following local authority vacancies caused by deaths.

By elections will be held to elect a councillor to replace Zanu-PF Golden Kapeta who died on October 1 and was representing Tongogara RDC Ward 22 in Midlands, as well as Zanu-PF councilor for  Zibagwe RDC Cafemol Moyo who died on September 28 and CCC councillor for Zvishavane Town Council Ward 4 Cherita Mundoka.
