The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum has called for immediate assistance to relocate and provide secure housing for 153 opposition party supporters who have faced post-election persecution.
The organization reported this information to the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights during its 77th Ordinary Session, denouncing the post-election violence that included abductions, torture, arson, forced displacement, and threats/intimidation/harassment in opposition strongholds.
As of September 30, 2023, these individuals and their families urgently require relocation and safe housing due to fears for their lives.
The forum has urged the African Commission to pressure the Zimbabwean government to cease post-election victimization and establish an independent commission to investigate human rights violations.
Additionally, they have called for the government to ratify and implement the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, along with its Optional Protocol.
