CONTRARY to societal norms and cultural values, Shylock Ndlovu (33) allegedly violated his aunt's physical and personal space when he forcefully entered her bedroom, assaulted her on her buttocks and robbed her of US$250.
The court heard that the underlying issue stemmed from Ndlovu lending cement to his aunt, Beauty Sibanda.
However, instead of returning the cement as agreed upon, Sibanda carelessly discarded it near Ndlovu's residence.
Incensed by his aunt's disregard for their agreement, Ndlovu confronted her at her homestead.
Upon arrival he allegedly kicked the door and stormed into the sitting room and went straight to her bedroom.
He found her seated on her bed. Without provocation, he reportedly subjected her to physical violence, including kicking her abdomen, chest, and buttocks.
It is alleged he also hurled insults at her.
He allegedly threatened to stab her while demanding money and his aunt reportedly gave him US$250.
After hearing his aunt's cries for help, Ndlovu's uncle rushed to the scene and attempted to intervene and restrain him.
However, Ndlovu's violent outburst proved too powerful, and it took the intervention of Ndlovu's father to finally calm him.
Sibanda reported the incident to the police, leading to Ndlovu's arrest.
Ndlovu appeared before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Tavengwa Sangster facing an assault charge.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody to 27 November.
In his defence, Ndlovu stated: "I went to her homestead to reclaim my cement and found her sitting on a sofa. I did not forcefully enter her bedroom. Her accusations are false; I merely requested the return of my cement.
"She then shouted at me, prompting my retaliation. She then shattered a glass on the floor and stabbed me on the head.
"After that we fought until my father arrived and stopped the fight. He then took us for counselling."
