2 men killed during beer drinking spree

TWO men died over the weekend in separate incidents following an argument during beer drinking sprees in Southlea Park and Hatcliffe in Harare.

Some of the suspects have since been arrested while two others are still at large.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incidents.

"Police in Southlea Park are appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of a male suspect only identified as Arnold who is wanted in connection with a case of murder which occurred on Saturday at Hopley Shopping Centre in which Stanford Matongo (35) died.

"The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim once on the ribs with a sharp object after an argument over an undisclosed issue during a beer drinking spree," he said.

In another case, Police in Borrowdale have arrested Nomore Chirembwe (26), Steven Mutasa (21) and Tafadzwa Kapeta (32) in connection with a case of murder which occurred in Hatcliffe Extension, Harare last Friday in which Devoted Chimufombo (23) died.

The suspects accused the victim of provoking them during a beer drinking spree at a night club before assaulting the victim indiscriminately.

The suspects later stabbed the victim once on the left back knee with a knife and they fled from the scene. The victim succumbed to the injuries sustained.

Meanwhile, police are appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of the fourth suspect only identified as Dee, who is wanted in connection with this case.

Police in Bindura have also confirmed the arrest of Marvelous Demojena Chikowe in connection with a case of murder and another of attempted murder which occurred on November 30, at Chiriseri Secondary School, Bindura in which his wife Ratidzai Mufari (43) died while another victim was injured.

The suspect allegedly assaulted his wife after a heated argument over an undisclosed issue.

Resultantly, the victim sustained six deep cuts on the face, swollen ribs and swollen right hand.

The suspect left his wife unconscious and he proceeded to a nearby house where he assaulted Albert Mawere (43), thrice on the head using an unknown sharp object and he broke the victim's left arm.

Both victims were ferried to a local clinic where Mufari died on admission.

Police in Kariba have arrested Chipengo Mpande (22) in connection with a case of murder which occurred on November 30, in which Fragment Chari (26) died.

The suspect accused the victim of having an affair with his estranged wife before stabbing him once on the left side of the stomach with an okapi knife.

The victim was rushed to Kariba District Hospital where he died on admission.
