By-elections were not necessary: Freedom Alliance

Freedom Alliance spokesperson Nhlanhla Moses Ncube has described the just-ended by-elections in which Zanu PF scooped 7 seats out of the nine that were won by Citizens Coalition for change in the August 23 elections as a waste of resources and violation of people's Democratic Rights, adding that they were not necessary at all.
Self-imposed CCC interim secretary general Sengezo Tshabangu recently recalled 15 legislators and 17 councilors and later secured a court order that barred them from recontesting the seats. However, even without those recalled CCC candidates, Tshabangu's candidates dismally lost to Zanu PF rendering his claims that he was in control of the party and his candidates were wanted by the people to be a fallacy and false.
Zanu PF grabbed Cowdray Park, Nketa, Bulawayo South, Bing a North, Beitbridge West, and Lupane East while Tshabangu candidates only won Mpopoma Mzilikazi and Lobengula Magwegwe.
Ncube said these by-elections were not very necessary.
"They are also ineffective in the sense that they will not change anything with regard to service delivery except that ZANU PF may mutilate the constitution to extend Mnangagwa's term in office," Ncube said
"The very low turnout of an MP getting a meagre one thousand votes should be embarrassing to the sound-minded. This indicates that the electorate rejected the whole process and the event. In as much as the elections exposed ZANU PF the opposition did not escape negative exposure as the other CCC faction supported ZANU PF as a way of protesting the recalls."
He said it will be difficult to regain their credibility henceforth.
Another by-election after Tshabangu recalled other 13 MPs is set do February next year.
