Russel Goreraza, the son of Zimbabwe's former first lady, Grace Mugabe, has found himself in legal trouble for failing to make maintenance payments for his child.
Goreraza, aged 40, is currently three months behind on payments, totaling US$7,500.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Goreraza appeared before the Concession Magistrates' Court, where he faced charges under Section 23 of the Maintenance Act Chapter 05:09 for failing to comply with a maintenance order.
During the court proceedings, Goreraza requested time to secure legal representation and did not enter a plea.
This legal issue arose in January this year when the mother of his child, with whom he shares with his ex-husband Stanley Goreraza, obtained a maintenance order against him. The court ordered Goreraza to pay US$2,500 monthly or the equivalent in Zimbabwean dollars as per the prevailing inter-bank rate.
However, it is alleged that Goreraza failed to make payments from January to March 2024, resulting in the accumulation of US$7,500 in arrears by March 31, 2024.
Appearing in court without legal representation, Goreraza was remanded to May 28 for trial.
